During half term we hopped on a bus to Butlins in Bognor Regis with 22 young carers aged 8-15. What a marvellous day we had; we sampled all the resort had to offer including the fairground rides, the indoor entertainment and the incredible Splash Waterworld.

This trip was a real treat for many of our young carers whose caring role often means it is difficult for them to be able to visit places like Butlins with their families. Day trips like this one provide the children with a much needed break from their caring role, as well as enabling them to build positive relationships with their peers; we watched confidence building and new friendships blooming as children relayed to each other how they managed to conquer the dreaded Space Bowl water slide!! The trip also provided ample opportunity for the young carers to build on supportive relationships with staff; staff were on hand to provide support, emotional and practical, throughout the day (and to play numerous games of eye spy). For many, this day trip was a new experience and one they will never forget!
